About this template
The genogram template outlines a three-generation family structure. The relationships depicted between all the couples are marriages. It does not have medical, emotional or behavioral details. Its purpose is to serve as a foundational framework for mapping out familial relationships and gathering comprehensive and detailed information.
The first generation consists of a heterosexual married couple and they have two biological, heterosexual daughters that make up the second generation. The older daughter in the second generation is married and she has two biological heterosexual sons with her husband. The younger daughter, from the second generation, is also married and has one biological, heterosexual daughter with her husband.
This structure, or base map, sets the stage for a detailed exploration of family dynamics, inter -generational patterns, and potential influences on individual members of the family. As medical, behavioral and emotional information is added to the genogram, it will eventually evolve into a visual representation of the family system, that will facilitate analysis and understanding. It will serve as a foundational tool for identifying potential health risks, while understanding family dynamics, and developing appropriate intervention strategies by clearly laying out hereditary and behavioral patterns that form from one generation to another generation.
