Description of the gas turbine P&ID
This template shows the working of an air conditioning unit. It operates by utilizing a refrigeration cycle to provide cooling. The compressor unit compresses the refrigerant gas, which then passes through the freezing pump where it condenses into a liquid. The heat from the compression process is expelled outside by the cooling tower and fan.
The liquid refrigerant passes through the main freezing engine which allows for the expansion and cooling of the refrigerant. This cold refrigerant enters the coils, absorbing heat from the air blown across the coils by the coil fan units, cooling the air in the process.

Benefits of using a P&ID diagram for air conditioning
P&IDs (Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams) work as a blueprint of systems for engineers. It enables them to visualize all the components of the air conditioning system, including the components, piping and any valves along the piping.
Air conditioning units have a complex mechanism, the P&ID simplifies the system by presenting a graphic of all the components involved in the system. It can be further enhanced by adding dimensions of piping and instruments, making it easier to identify each part when dealing with a real-life problem about air conditioning units.
Since they serve as blueprints, they are also used for the design process of new air conditioning systems. Thus, P&IDs hold great significance for engineers in understanding, troubleshooting and designing of air conditioning units.
FAQs about the air conditioning P&ID
-
A P&ID describes all plant equipment and layout in a simple to visualize manner. It indicates the direction of flow of the process liquid making it easy to understand the workings of the air conditioning system.
-
Air conditioners work by compressing the refrigerant, allowing it to expand which causes it to cool down. Then the air is blown across coils containing cold refrigerant which cools the air and it is expelled by a blower inside the house.
-
The refrigerant used in air conditioners is a non-combustible gas that helps transfer heat. It circulates through the AC as a gas, turns into a liquid, and then returns to a gas.
