A typical city government organizational chart uses a hierarchical structure. The highest position is usually the Director of Public Works or the Mayor. Below them might be a Secretary for administrative support.
Branching out from the top position are department heads, such as the Administrator, Financial Chief, Fire Chief, and Police Chief. These department heads manage specific areas of the city government.
Some departments have further sub-divisions. For instance, the Administrator might oversee Parks and Recreation, Human Resources, Technology, Development, and Community Services. The Fire and Police departments might have a simpler structure, with a Fire Chief or Police Chief overseeing a Deputy Chief or similar position.
