About this template
A work breakdown structure (or “WBS”) is a diagram showing the work assignment or tasks. It’s usually composed of teams in the first hierarchy, while the tasks are further distributed downwards. Many work breakdown structures also use levels to highlight priority levels, teams, or goals and functions.
The project work breakdown structure above shows how the project title is designated Level 1 in red, indicating that it is the ultimate goal to be accomplished. The teams are at Level 2 of the structure, which can be seen as the essence of a work breakdown structure.
It’s also great to assign specific stuff to different teams in Level 3. For example, one team can focus on logistics, while the others can focus on finance, operations, etc.
Lastly, the Level 4 tasks are the actual tasks to be performed. These are usually the little to-dos that comprise the Level 3 task. For instance, for a “Social Media Promotion Task” at Level 3, there might be “Post calendar on Facebook,” “Post product photos,” and more.
Overall, a project work breakdown structure is a great way to visualize tasks for your team.
