About this CPU block diagram

CPU which is the main element of any computer processing system. It is encompassed by the Control Unit through which the CPU is controlled by fetching, decoding, and executing instructions. Arithmetic and Logical Unit (ALU) is dedicated to mathematical and logical operations, which include addition, subtraction, comparison, etc.

The Memory Unit consists of the primary which is the RAM and the secondary which is the hard drive that holds the data and or instructions. However, primary memory is faster than secondary memory though it has restricted sizes as compared to secondary memory which has more space but with slower speed.

Scanning devices such as keyboards and mice can input data in a format that must be changed by the Input Unit to a format acceptable to the CPU. On the other hand, the output unit transmits processed data to the display equipment, such as a monitor or even a printer.

Therefore, it can be concluded that the CPU is a multi-layered structure consisting of individual parts connected to perform calculations on instruction and data sets. From the diagram, the identified components also do well to present a simplified snapshot of the CPU and the successive activities performed by the individual parts.
