First Generation of the Anoa'i Family
The Bloodline family started with two men, Rev Amituana'i Anoa'i and Peter Maivia. Both took a blood oath and became brothers.
- Rev Amituana'i: Reverend Amituana'i Anoa'i was born to Ifopo F. Amituanai and Puaaelo Faagata in Fagatogo. He married Tovaleomanaia Leoso in Leone. Initially, Rev worked as a carpenter until he was relocated to San Francisco. There is no indication to show whether he was a wrestler himself, and he mostly spent his time in Samoa with his family.
- Peter Maivia: The second head of the Bloodline, Peter Maivia, also known as The High Chief, was born to Alfred Fanene and Peke Papalii. Peter started his wrestling career at a young age and had tournaments across the globe.
Eventually, he became the president of the Polynesian Pro Wrestling for the National Wrestling Alliance. Peter's career truly picked up in 1977 when he joined the then World Wide Wrestling Federation and had a massive fan following.
Peter married Ofelia Fuataga, who became his first promoter upon Peter's death. He also adopted Ofelia's daughter, Ata. Ata would later marry Peter's trainee, Wayde Doughlas Bowles, popularly known as Soulman.
Second Generation of the Anoa'i Family
The second generation of the Bloodline family was the children of Rev Anao'i and Tovaleomanaia Leoso. Among these nine children, two became known professional wrestlers and three gave birth to professional wrestlers, making the family well known in the lineage.
The first son, Afa, born in 1942, became a significant member of the Wild Samoans with his brother Sika. The two brothers were trained by their uncle, Peter Maivia, and his son-in-law Rocky Johnson.
Aside from these two were Tumua, who later became the father of famous wrestler Black Pearl, and Afoa, who became the father of Rodney, popularly known as Yokozuna. Other children of the Reverend were Initalia, Tusipa, Peteroni, Elevera, and Matalima. Elevera married I'aulualo, and the couple became parents of the three future WWE performers.
There is another branch of the Bloodline family in the second generation, which passes down through the step-daughter of Peter Maivia, Mataniufeagaimaleata Fitisemanu, popularly known as Ata Johnson. Ata got involved with Rocky Johnson during a wrestling tag team, and the couple had a son, Dwayne Johnson.
Reportedly, in addition to Dwayne, Rocky had at least five children from other wives.
Third Generation of the Anoa'i Family
The third generation of the Bloodline is truly what fans believe to be the biggest superstars from the 80s, including The Rock and Roman Reigns.
First comes Reno Anoa'i, the son of Rev's first child, Tumua. He mostly wrestled between 2002 and 2009 as Black Pearl.
Next, we have the children of Afa - Samu Anoa'i and Menu Jr. Samu became a part of the headshrinkers with his cousin Rikishi, and the team would win the WWF Tag Team Championship in 1994. Manu Jr wrestled between 2006 and 2009. During his career, Manu formed an alliance, mostly with the second and third-generation wrestlers.
After this, we meet the descendants of Rev's third son, Afoa - Rodney Yokozuna Anoa'i. He was a formidable wrestler of 600 pounds, having a mostly successful career. He won the WWF championship and the tag team championship twice. Despite being a Samoan, he was portrayed as a sumo wrestler from Japan.
Now, let's talk about the family of Sika Anoa'i, Rev's another Wild Samoan. He married Patricia Hooker in 1969, and the couple gave birth to five children. Their first son, Rosey or Matthew Tapunu'u Anoa'i, was an in-ring performer until 2017, when he died. His most popular son, however, is Leati Joseph Anoa'i, better known as Roman Reigns. Reigns was the WWE Universal champion and WWE champion for many years.
If you remember from the second generation, Rev had a daughter, Elevera, who married I'aulualo Folau. The couple gave birth to twins, Edward and Rikishi. The second son, Rikishi, had a 12-year-long career during which he won three Tag Team Championships and one Intercontinental Championship. Like his brother, Edward also won the Intercontinental Championship twice.
All successes on one side, the most popular among the third generation of Bloodlines is Dwayne Johnson, better known as The Rock. Despite not having a blood relation, he is introduced as the second cousin of Roman Reigns and often cited as a member of the Anoa'i family. He won 8 WWE championships, 2 WCW championships, 2 Intercontinental championships, 5 Tag Team championships, and more.
Fourth Generation of the Anoa'i Family
Finally, the fourth generation of the Anoa'i family. Even though Reigns is the most active competitor from the family, there are also other members in the fourth generation. These are the descendants of Rikishi - the twins, Jonathan and Joshua (better known as Jimmy and Jey), and Joseph Yokozuna. The twins had one of the most successful tag teams in WWE history.
Another member of the family is Simone Johnson, better known as Ava. She is Rock's daughter, the only member of the generation to compete for the WWE championship through her NXT brand. Technically, one distant cousin, Savelina, also competes for the WWE, whose father Joseph was the first cousin of Peter Maivia.
