About these sensor symbols
Sensors are essential because they are instruments that are used to help measure and determine conditions in the physical and natural environment. This begins with simple sensors such as the temperature sensor which is used to measure object or environment temperature.
While humidity sensors detect the amounts of moisture in the atmosphere, enthalpy sensors determine the amount of energy contained in a system. Pressure sensors intend to measure the pressure of gases and/or liquids while flow sensors are used for the measurement of flow rate of liquids and or gases.
Velocity sensors tell how quickly an object or substance is moving and light sensors tell how bright a given area is. More specializations of the sensors include voltage sensors for electrical voltage and vibration for detecting vibrations in a machine to predict an impending issue or failure.
General sensors are flexible and can calculate numerous parameters depending on the make of the sensors. They contain current sensor symbols which quantify the current present in a circuit and power sensor symbols that quantify energy consumed.
Air quality sensors are used to take measurements of the content present in the air and rotation sensors are for objects that rotate with specified velocities. Coriolis flow sensors are used to quantify mass flow rate and density of the fluids and the vortex flow sensors are used for flow rate measurement of the fluids.
Finally, we have proximity sensors that function in detecting the existence of an object or the absence of the same in most automated environments. Engineers who know these sensor symbols can develop proper sensor systems for different operations in industrial fields or for measuring weather conditions in a specific area.
Let's take a look at a few important sensor symbols:
Temperature sensor
This symbol is used to measure the degree of heat of a given area or an object. It assists in observing heat ranges in programs, equipment, or climate conditions.
Humidity sensor
This symbol detects the amount of humidity in a particular environment. The particular function of this sensor is to manage the climate indoors and to guarantee that products are kept in ideal conditions.
Enthalpy sensor
This symbol obtains the total heat content of a process by both temperature and pressure readings.
Pressure sensor
This symbol is used for measuring the pressure of gases or liquids. It is applied in such systems as air compressors or water pumps to help check whether it is operating safely and efficiently.
Flow sensor
This symbol calculates the speed of the fluids through a pipe or a system. It assists in managing and regulating the consumption of fluids in industries as well as in machinery.
Velocity sensor
This symbol tells how quickly an object or a medium travels. It can be used in various systems such as weather conditions measurement or as a system to count a car’s speed.
Light sensor
This symbol measures the amount of light. This sensor is particularly applied in automatic lighting systems or cameras to regulate the brightness.
Voltage sensor
This symbol measures the tension in an electrical circuit and supervises it. It checks that circuits are at safe voltage, and defense circuit devices from damage.
Vibration sensor
This symbol works on machinery or on equipment that is subject to vibrating. It assists in identifying mechanical failure and guarantees timely servicing of tools.
General sensor
This symbol is designed to measure a vast number of parameters in its scope regarding the specific design applied during its construction. The sensors in question are versatile and can be used in several applications other than the aforementioned environment.
Current sensor
This symbol is defined as a path through which electrical current flows and an ammeter is used to measure it. It is employed for overcurrent or the non-communication of an electrical system or even to calculate the use of power.
Power sensor
This symbol measures the flow of power through a system and is normally used to measure the amount of power being used by the system. Facility management is used in the monitoring of power usage for optimum use of energy.
Air quality sensor
This symbol manages the level of emissions in the air. This sensor is applied for environmental sensing and Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) management.
Rotation sensor
This symbol identifies the speed and direction of rotations. It is applied in motors, vehicles, and such machinery to measure rotating movement.
Coriolis flow sensor
This symbol measures both the volumetric and mass flow rates of fluids. The method is widely employed where metering of fluid volumetric is crucial in an industrial process.
Vortex flow sensor
This symbol measures the frequency of pressure fluctuations due to the phenomenon of vortex with an ability to detect the flow rates of fluids. The most common application is in the estimation of the flow rate of gases and liquids through pipelines.
Proximity sensor
This symbol identifies when an object is or is not present. It is best applied in automation systems for object recognition, for instance in a robotic arm or security system.
